Races at Corwen Walking Festival
Corwen Walking Festival is a celebration of the magical countryside that Corwen resides in. This small Town nestles in the Dee Valley and under the watchful eye of the Berwyn Mountains and as well as the twenty seven diferent walks that we offer, twenty six guided and one self led, we also offer Races and Sports Activities for people to come along and take part in. These allow people to again be outside in the glorious Welsh air taking on a different sort of challenge.
Caer Drewyn 5k Hill Run
As you enter Corwen you can see Caer Drewyn standing guard like a caring parent over the Town. The hillfort itself dates back to the Iron Age where the first settlment and community were formed and now you have the chance to take on this hill and conquer it in our 5k hill race.
Registration for the race will start at 2.00 pm on Saturday 2nd September in the Sports Pavilion in Green Lane.
Participants of the race will then make their way up to Corwen Leisure Centre for the start of the race. The race will go from the Leisure Centre going around the back of the hillfort on a gentle height gain. Once at the bottom of the hillfort track the major assault on the Iconic hill starts and as your lungs burn you will realise just why the ancestors of Corwen chose this hill as their home. Once you hit the top of the hillfort and the first drinks station you will return by the same track to the bottom where a left turn will lead you initially via a trail and then a road back to the Leisure Centre. From here you cross the road and hit Green Lane for the last stretch on the road. You will go down Green Lane passed the Sports Pavilion where the cheering crowds will spur you on. You enter the Memorial Park and run a circuit around the park on the edge of the football and cricket pitches going via the stone circle where you will be in the finishing straight for a finish by the tennis courts and wherever you come you will have beatenn the hill.
The running events at the Corwen Walking Festival are all done in partnership with Up Hill and Down Dale who also organise other races in our area including the Rhug 10k and 20k in April. Bookings for all races are managed for us via the Up Hill and Down Dale website as per the link below. Places are limited so booking early is essential.
